Wound Care

At TOTAL CARE PLUS, we know that pressure ulcers or wounds are very severe health risks for those people who are confined to a bed or wheelchair, as well as those people who have limited mobility and find themselves either sitting too much or lying down too much. We also know of the extreme frustration and distress that comes with living with a pressure ulcer or wound. Trying to manage the pain with medications. And then, the dressings can be an apparently never-ending task, depending on your physical condition or where the wound is located.

At TOTAL CARE PLUS, we offer personalized home wound care programs to help get your wounds healed as fast as possible. Whatever the cause of you or your loved one’s wounds, our very highly skilled wound care nurse consultants are ready to treat and manage those wounds and your associated pain. The prevention of pressure sores and serious wounds is very critical to maintaining the quality of life of patients who are at risk. Our experienced caregivers are all well trained to recognize the early signs of skin breakdown for patients, and help prevent the development of pressure ulcers or wounds by:

  • Assisting patient with changing positions in a timely manner while sitting or lying down
  • Helping patient transfer to and from their bed, to and from seated positions, including the toilet
  • Frequently examining patient’s skin for redness or signs that pressure ulcers may be developing
  • Always protecting patient’s skin by keeping it clean and dry
  • Rubbing lotion on patient’s dry skin
  • Promptly changing patient’s wet or dirty bed sheets
  • Making certain patients have a balanced diet and drink plenty of fluids
  • Immediately bathing patients who have wet or soiled themselves
  • Immediately notifying patient’s family and physician of skin breakdown so medical treatment is able to begin quickly

Sitting or lying down in one position for very long periods of time will cause pressure sores and serious wounds, and when left untreated can lead to infection, pain, as well as a reduced quality of life.
